When Art Challenges Our Sense of Responsibility

Presented at the LUMA Foundation’s Glassroom from May 2026 to January 2027, Camille Henrot’s video installation In the Veins explores what it means to raise children in the era of the climate crisis, inviting viewers to reflect on the connections between parenthood and ecological responsibility.

Camille Henrot, a leading figure in contemporary art

Camille Henrot, born in France in 1978, is an internationally renowned contemporary artist. She has developed a critically acclaimed practice that spans multiple media and draws on literature, poetry, and social media. In 2013, her film Grosse Fatigue won the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale.

She went on to hold a series of notable exhibitions at the Chislehurst Gallery in London and the Palais de Tokyo. She has also exhibited at the New Museum in New York, the Centre Pompidou, and the National Gallery of Victoria. In 2026, she presented In the Veins at both the New Museum and LUMA Arles.

A Meditation on Care and Extinction

In the Veins explores the role of animals in childhood, at a time when many are now endangered. Through images of wildlife rehabilitation centers, the film invites us to reflect on our connection to living beings and our responsibility toward nature. As described by the Arles-based foundation, the video work argues that:

“Acts of care in the midst of destruction are not minor acts, but forms of courage” (LUMA Arles, 2026).

A sensitive film that reminds us of the importance of caring for living things in the face of the challenges posed by the ecological crisis.
