La Nuit de la Lumière
The Night of Light is an international movement aimed at supporting businesses and individuals in the cultural sector. Originally initiated and widely promoted in Switzerland, this initiative has since expanded across Europe, resonating with cultural professionals on an international scale. The core of the initiative is to illuminate the buildings where creativity takes shape: monuments, museums, theaters, concert halls, studios, and offices—the places where our work and performances come to life.
For this edition of the Night of Light, iDzia took part in a symbolic act of solidarity by illuminating the iconic Arles Amphitheater. By shining light on this historic monument, we aimed to raise awareness about the urgent challenges facing the cultural industry, particularly those caused by the ongoing health crisis. This initiative not only celebrates the resilience and creativity of cultural professionals but also underscores the importance of supporting these sectors during times of uncertainty.
Our contribution involved the installation of architectural lighting that brought new life to the Arles Amphitheater, creating a stunning visual display that highlighted its majestic structure. The choice of lighting was designed to enhance the historical beauty of the monument while also symbolizing the hope and strength of the cultural community during a time of great adversity. The illuminated amphitheater served as a beacon of support for artists, performers, and cultural workers who have faced significant disruptions due to the pandemic.
By participating in the Night of Light, iDzia sought to not only honor the role of culture in our society but also to send a strong message to territorial and national representatives about the insecurity the cultural sector continues to face. As venues remain closed or operate at limited capacity, the financial and emotional toll on cultural professionals is substantial. The lighting of the Arles Amphitheater was a call for action, urging lawmakers and decision-makers to recognize the gravity of the situation and to continue offering support for the cultural industries.
This international initiative is more than just an act of illumination—it is a testament to the strength of the cultural community and a reminder of the importance of creativity in our lives. The Night of Light brings us together in solidarity, shining a light not only on the cultural venues but on the people who make art, culture, and creativity possible. We are proud to have contributed to this global movement and to continue advocating for the future of the cultural professions.
